Garry Clawson

Global Supply Chain Observtory Lead
University of Cambridge

Mr Garry Clawson, a Doctoral Researcher at the University of Cambridge's Institute for Manufacturing, is advancing supply chain design research within the Industrial Resilience Research Group. Under the guidance of Associate Professor Mukesh Kumar and Professor Chander Velu, Clawson explores the relationship between supply chain design factors and product functionality through the lens of configuration theory. As leader of the Global Supply Chain Observatory, based within the Industrial Resilience group, he investigates critical mineral supply chains with an emphasis on open data. Clawson brings over 25 years of hands-on experience in the manufacturing sector across the UK, MENA, and Europe, offering a unique blend of practical knowledge and theoretical insight to his work in industrial resilience and supply chain optimisation.

Building Transparency in Critical Mineral Supply Chains: Global Supply Chain Observatory

The Global Supply Chain Observatory (GSCO), an initiative by the University of Cambridge's Institute for Manufacturing Industrial Resilience Research Group, represents a significant advancement in supply chain management. This platform employs cutting-edge technologies to enhance visibility and resilience in global supply networks. The GSCO's core functions include comprehensive supply chain mapping, risk analysis, and environmental impact assessments. It addresses critical challenges such as geopolitical disruptions and sustainability regulations. Focusing on key industries like critical minerals and EV battery manufacturing, the GSCO supports regulatory compliance and promotes ethical practices. By leveraging open data and advanced analytics, it aims to transform supply chains into intelligent, self-optimising networks, ultimately fostering sustainable growth and innovation in the global economy.
