Howden, a Chart Industries company

Starting his career in Railway engineering, John moved into air movement equipment in 1988, and has worked in engineering and sales activities involving air and gas movement across multiple industries ever since. These include such diverse applications as church organ blowers, petrochemical applications of fans and compressors, and recirculation fans in nuclear applications. Now focussed on mining, John and his team design and specify main and auxiliary vent fans for mines, together with associated equipment such as heaters, cooling systems and as we discuss today mine ventilation software solutions.

Improving mine safety whilst reducing energy use with Ventilation on Demand

Using simple sensor equipment, and Howden Ventsim software, it is now possible to optimise ventilation in your mine, with constant monitoring of staff and vehicles within the underground environment. This will allow safety and evacuation plans to be available instantly, and ensure clean air at the work face to keep workers safe and healthy. In doing so, this system will simultaneously ensure that the fans operate at the exact rate required, and thus reduce wasted energy from unnecessary air movement. Energy savings of up to 50% are typically available without detriment to the working environment. This presentation will explain how Ventsim can deliver these outcomes for you in a bespoke and inexpensive package.
